I can understand your preference for not seeing ads, but your view is very short-sited on this topic. To get really great sites, developers will need a revenue stream. Generally, no one wants to pay for any content on the web- so dedicated developers have adapted to users desires and focused on an ad-based revenue model.

If AdBlock use becomes wide-spread, its going to cause a problem because you're usurping the the revenue model most developers put in place because 'you' (the proverbial web surfer) don't want to pay for content. Wanting free content and no ads is understandable, but overlooks the big picture that a revenue model must exist to get the next best thing on the web. Do not confuse this post as an endorsement of deceptive advertising or unbalanced ads vs. content proportion.

I would recommend that before AdBlock use becomes too widespread, all web developers/bloggers redirect their visitors who have AdBlock enabled to a page on your site that politely explains the grass roots web developer's perspective on this issue, and block them from the desired content until the AdBlock plugin is disabled.

To all those who cry about my blocking the ads and they not able to earn money from my visit ...Read this...

I am not going to your page to be interrupted by ads or to read ads. Even if google or any other websites give contextual ads, i could not care less about the ads.

After I was able to block all the ads, my browsing experience has improved a lot and I would recommend everyone reading this blog to go ahead and experience to know it.

I do not have a single affiliate link nor ad in my blog and I will not be having it either.

Since when did Google's text ads and Orkut's ads install malware into people's system?

It is my choice to enable ads or not.

Any ways, thanks for commenting.

Hard working bloggers and journalists provide you the top news of the day for free and in return they put up ads to pay for the content they're giving away.

And you decide to try to block their revenue.

Fabulous! Really, keep up the good work.

Can't you see that efforts like this will only lead to shutting down of some of our favorite sites? Where will you go then?

If they're asking you to pay for the news and piling on ads in addition to the fees, then I can see your point. If not, whats the harm in letting them put up ads? It will only help them keep their sites up that much longer before shutting down.

p.s. Btw, notice I said 'try' to block ads. That's because even though you blocked the ads from being shown in YOUR browser, your IP is still logged as a visitor, which means it adds to their visitor/page view counts, numbers they use to sell ads on their sites - basically, they're still making money off you :)
